    Description

    Vintage / antique Sanno Hotel, Tokyo Japan, tourist travel brochure. Brochure has Art Deco stylings around the photos of the rooms. Art Deco styling in the bar and front office.
    Sanno Hotel Opened for Business March 1932 - 73 & 74, Nichome, Nagata-cho, Kojimachi-ku, Tokyo. This neighbourhood is popularly known at Sanno-Shita, Akasaka.
    The Sanno Hotel had a modern Western design and was considered one of the top three accommodations in Tokyo. It was in close proximity to the army barracks at Aoyama and Roppongi in the prewar days and was frequented by Japanese military and government officials.  In the thirties it boasted one of the finest wine cellars in Asia, an impressive restaurant, huge banquets and Tokyo's first swimming pool and indoor ice skating rink.
    It had a short life as a hotel.
    It also served as a base for Japanese wartime radio programs. The hotel was gutted by Allied bombing in 1945 and rebuilt in 1947 for US military housing.
