Vintage Black Lacquered Japanese Jewelry Box Figurines/Musical  Animated
This rare vintage Japan hand crafted and painted black lacquered features animated figurines which can be viewed via the front window of the piece; as well as from above when the box is opened.  Each figurine has an umbrella and one figure is pulling a hand held cart with a passenger aboard.  There are decorative flowers to be found in the front and back of this scene and this interior box is enclosed by mirrors.  Whether the pieces move when wound up and "playing' has not been determined or tested. This particular model of Japanese black lacquered wooden jewelry, with its viewing window and figurines, is very unusual. The original sticker which reads: "Japan" is still on the bottom of the piece.
The jewelry box has been exquisitely hand painted with some of the foliage and pagoda's known to this region.
Measurements: 13" length x 8" height x 5 1/4" depth.
There are two functioning front doors with handles.  Two doors that open to compartments on each side (see photo) one is lined with red material and the other has wood and a plastic inner piece which looks like it was for batteries?.  There is a mirror on the inside of top lid. and front draw which overlooks the figurines below and is separated by clear plastic barrier.
This rare Japanese hand crafted jewelry box is in good condition. The back turn key to wind up for music is missing as well as the front lock key.  Therefore, the item has not been tested and will be sold as is. Music turn key and or lock key for front not included.  The item is vintage and has scratches, wearing spots and dulling of the black lacquered paint throughout. The bottom has age wood and imperfections of paint due to age. The hinges, drawers and doors all function properly. No cracking of the interior mirror or  front glass.  Some scratches to the clear plastic above and covering the interior compartment of figurines.  The interior lining of red felt or velvet; for all the drawers and compartments needs to be cleaned up.
