Female passenger killed in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway auto crash

A female passenger, whose identity has not yet been determined, was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Lenuwa Village corridor of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, PUNCH Metro gathered on Thursday.

The accident, which occurred at approximately 6:17 p.m. on Wednesday, involved a fully loaded Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number BOJ716XF and an unidentified truck.

The passenger bus, which was heading towards Ibadan from Lagos State, reportedly collided with the unidentified truck that had entered the expressway at high speed from a nearby trailer park without properly checking for oncoming vehicles.

The Ogun State Police Command told PUNCH Metro that the truck driver fled the scene after the unidentified truck sped onto the motorway from the park, saying the fully loaded passenger bus collided with it, injuring several of its occupants.
Due to the severity of the collision, PUNCH Metro learnt that the victims were quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced one of the female passengers dead.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, told our correspondent that the deceased’s body had been taken to the mortuary, while the surviving victims were receiving treatment.

Odutola stated, “The passengers sustained severe injuries and were taken to Idera Private Hospital in Sagamu, where the doctor on duty pronounced one of the female passengers dead on arrival.
“The address of the deceased is not yet known. The body has been removed and placed in the hospital mortuary.”

PUNCH Metro revealed that two occupants of a Mitsubishi Canter were killed in a crash along the Straight Gate area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday.

The Commandant of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, stated that the accident occurred in the early hours of the day due to the driver’s speeding.
